Description
View of people at Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's encampment near Jebel Hafeet [Jabal Hafit]. Four people and a dog mill about the encampment. In the foreground on the left a man walks past a tent made of woven mats. A fence made of stripped palm fronds lines the outside of the tent. On the right, a man and a boy walk in front of an 'arish hut, which is made from date palm fronds. Behind them a boy stands at the entrance to the hut. In the background a dog stands next to a bush, in front of another tent made of woven mats. Beyond the camp sand dunes rise in the far background, and further back the mountain Jebel Hafeet (Jabal Hafit) is visible. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
