Description
Seated portrait of one of Wilfred Thesiger's Arab guides on a stoney plain below Jebel Hafeet [Jabal Hafit] mountain. The man kneels in stoney ground, resting his hands on his thighs. He wears a cartridge belt over his thobe (long shirt) and has large plain headscarf (ghutra) wrapped loosely around his head. In the background the stoney ground is bare of vegetation. In the far distance a line of trees grows along the bottom of Jebel Hafeet [Jabal Hafit]. Wilfred Thesiger spent a week on Jebel Hafeet [Jabal Hafit] hunting Arabian Tahr [Hemitragus jayakari] with Arab and Bedouin guides in April 1948.
