Description

Seated portrait of an Arab man, one of Wilfred Thesiger's guides, riding a camel during the party's journey from Jabal Sumeini to the port city of Sharjah. The man, a retainer of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, kneels in his saddle [most of the camel's body is outside the frame]. He is looking down at his hands, in which he holds a small branch (used as a camel stick) and the reins of his camel. He wears a ghutra (headscarf) and a thobe (long shirt) topped with a belt. He also carries a rifle slung under his left arm. In the background a few bushes grow in rocky soil.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
