Description
Profile portrait of an Arab man, one of Wilfred Thesiger's guides, riding a camel during the party's journey from Jabal Sumeini to the port city of Sharjah. The man, a retainer of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, kneels in his saddle facing towards the left [the camel's lower legs are cut off by the bottom frame]. The man wears a thobe (long shirt) topped with a cartridge belt and wears his ghutra (headscarf) wrapped closely around his head and neck. He has a rifle slung under his left arm and holds a camel stick in his right hand, close to his chest. In the background bushes grow in the sand, and further behind a vast plain stretches into the distance.
