Description
Seated portrait of Alaiwa bin Lutaiya, a guide in Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, taken during the party's journey from Ramlat al Ghirbaniyat to Furai well. Alaiwa bin Lutaiya, a tribesman of the Marakhin lineage of Duru Bedouin, faces forward, sitting with one hand on his thigh. He wears a striped ghutra (headscarf) and a light coloured thobe (shirt). In the background vegetation grows in flat sand.
