Description
Half length standing portrait of a local Arab man and boy in Al Ain / Buraimi oasis. An Arab man and a boy stand side by side in front of a dune slope on which three large bushes grow. The man on the left wears a waistcoat and a cartridge belt with a khanjar (dagger) over his thobe (long shirt) and his ghutra (headscarf) is blown by the wind. The boy stands at the centre right. He wears a tightly tied patterned ghutra and a plain thobe. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
