Description
Group portrait of hunters and retainers in Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's falconry party at their encampment near Al Ain. In the foreground a group of men and two boys mill about in front of a striped tent erected on sand. At the centre a man in a light thobe (long shirt) topped with a waistcoat (likely Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan) hands a pack of cigarettes to a man in a dun coloured thobe on the left. On the far right camp equipment and supplies lie in the sand. In the distance beyond the camp sand dunes are dotted with shrubs. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
