Description
Upper body portrait of one of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's Bedouin retainers in Al Ain. The man, a tribesman of the Rashid Bedouin, sits in the sand, looking into the far right distance. He is wearing a thobe (long shirt) and a headscarf (ghutra), and has a khanjar (dagger) tucked into his belt. Behind the man is a flat plain of rocky sand, almost bare of vegetation. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
