Description
Close up portrait of a tribesman of the Junuba Bedouin, one of the retainers of Sulaiman bin Hamyiar, in the region west of the Hamrat ad Duru. A tribesman of the Junuba Bedouin sits facing forward, his head turned to the right. He wears a khanjar (dagger) on a belt over his thobe (shirt) and an embroidered headscarf. This man was sent by Sulaiman bin Hamyiar to accompany Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party from Al Hubi village to Al Ain. Sulaiman bin Hamyiar is a sheikh of the Bani Riyam tribe which occupies the region surrounding Jabal Akhdar.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
