Description

Full length portrait of a man standing with a camel in Al Ain oasis. On the far left a man stands in the sand beside a dry bush, holding the head rope of a thoroughbred Batina camel (centre). The man wears a waistcoat and a cartridge belt over his thobe (long shirt), and a ghutra (headscarf). The camel stands in profile, facing towards the left. In the background trees and bushes grow in the sand behind a ridge. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
