View of Wilfred Thesiger's sailing companions aboard a dhow (sailboat) in the Abu Dhabi islands. A number of men and boys rest on the deck of a sailing boat. At the centre a man sits next to an array of rigging. Beside him, on the far right, Sheikh Hazaa bin Sultan Al Nahyan sits against the side of the boat. He covers his mouth and nose with his hand. He is wearing a white headscarf topped with a thick black 'agal (head rope), a waistcoat, and a silver embossed dagger (khanjar) on a leather belt. At the far left, a boy wearing a blazer and a large check patterned headscarf sits surrounded by resting men. At the stern of the boat a man stands on the tiller, steering with his feet. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's week and a half long sailing trip around the Abu Dhabi Islands with Sheikh Hazaa bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan and their retainers in March 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
