Description
Seated portrait of a young man, one of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's Bedouin retainers in Al Ain. The man sits in the sand with a rifle tucked into his right shoulder. He wears a thobe (long shirt) and a headscarf (ghutra) topped with thin black aghal (head ropes). An adobe building sits in the far left distance behind the young man. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
