Description
Seated profile portrait of Salim bin Kabina, one of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, riding a camel during the party's journey from Jabal Sumeini to the port city of Sharjah. Salim bin Kabina, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, kneels in the saddle of his camel, facing towards the right [most of the camel's body is outside the frame]. His elbows rest on a rifle in a leather sleeve balanced across his lap. He wears a cartridge belt over his thobe (long shirt) and has a ghutra (headscarf) wrapped around his head. His shoulder-length curly hair is blown by a breeze. In the background bushes grow in sands that stretch into the far distance.
