Description
Seated portrait of a tribesman of the Manasir Bedouin in Al Khatam sands near Al Ain. An older man with a thick grey goatee sits in front of some tall dry bushes. His hands are clasped together in his lap on top of his dark bisht (robe) which he wears over a light coloured thobe (long shirt). He also wears a plain ghutra (headscarf) tied over his head, on which many flies sit. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
