Description
View of two members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a well in Al Batin sands. In the central foreground one of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin companions bends over while hauling water from a well in the sand. On the right Musallim bin Al Kamam, a sheikh of the Musaifar lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stands by the well alongside some camels. Two of the camels are drinking water from a metal pot. Behind them a few salt bushes grow on a sand dune, and, in the further distance, more vegetation grows scattered across a vast salt flat bordered by high dunes. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
