Description

Seated portrait of Sahail bin Tahi, a tribesman of the Mudairiba lineage of Rashid Bedouin and one of Wilfred Thesiger's guides, during the party's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis (likely in the region of Al Humrah sands). Sahail bin Tahi kneels in sand with his knees together and his hands folded in his lap. He has a large grey beard and wears a plain ghutra (headscarf) and a patterned wraparound skirt. Behind him another member of the party is sleeping and a few bags lie in the sand. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
