Description

Seated portrait of a young tribesman of the Manasir Bedouin in the Al Khatam sands near Al Ain. A young man with short hair sits in the sand with his arm resting on his knee, holding his hand by his chin. He wears a plain ghutra (headscarf), a light coloured thobe (long shirt), and has a checked cloth hanging over one shoulder. On his left a bush grows, while in the far distance young tufts of vegetation jut out of the sand. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
