Description
Seated portrait of Musallim bin Al Kamam, a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, sitting on a sand dune in Al Batin or Al Dhafra sands. In the foreground small secondary dunes and footprints mark the surface of steeply sloping sand dune. In the right distance Musallim bin Al Kamam, a sheikh of the Musaifar lineage of Rashid Bedouin, sits on the slope of the dune. He looks into the far left distance, and holds the palm of his hand alongside his face. A few tufts of qassis (sedge) grow on the dune, which slopes steeply down into a depression on the left. In the distance beyond more dunes rise high above the depression. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
