Description
View of Wilfred Thesiger's party travelling to the Bani Yas settlement of Jayf in Liwa oasis. Two members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, walk their camels across a large expanse of sand towards the distant settlement of Jayf. The settlement is made up of small square huts (locally known as 'arish) that have been built atop two dune ridges. The huts are made from palm fronds, and most have an attached rectangular enclosure for containing livestock. In the foreground a grove of date palms grows on a dune slope at the far left and a few sand fences line some of the dune ridges below the settlement.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
