Description
Portrait of Hamad, a Bedouin guide in Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, watering camels at Furai well in the Sharqiyah Sands. Hamad, a tribesman of the Mahra Bedouin, stands on the right holding a leather bag full of water. He wears a light coloured thobe (shirt) topped with a cartridge belt and an embroidered headscarf. Behind him a number of camels drink from cloth-lined trough dug into the sand.
