A young Sheikh Mubarak bin Mohammed Al Nahyan (right) kneels in the sand next to one of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's retainers. They each hold a rifle in their right hand and wear a khanjar (dagger) tucked in a cartridge belt over their thobe (long shirt). In the background is a sand flat bare of vegetation, and in the far distance a line of trees. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
