Description

Full length standing portrait of Captain Haji Mansur on his dhow (sailboat) in the Persian Gulf near Bahrain Island. Haji Mansur, the nakhoda or captain of the dhow on which Wilfred Thesiger travelled from Dubai to Bahrain Island, stands next to a mast on the deck of his dhow. He wears a suit jacket over a thobe (long shirt), has a ghutra (headscarf) wrapped around his taqiyah cap, and leans on a cane. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
