Description
View of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party trekking through Al Batin sands during their journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) from Al Dhafra sands to Liwa oasis. Two members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, lead a caravan of camels along soft sands on the edge of a salt flat (sabkha). At the right a man stands on one leg at the head of a line of camels. A second man is mounted on a camel in the middle of the caravan. The camels are tethered to each other with their head ropes. In the background the salt flat encircled by high dunes. The sand in the foreground is entirely bare of any vegetation.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
