Description
View of Wilfred Thesiger's party arriving at the Bani Yas settlement of Dhafir in Liwa oasis. The settlement of Dhafir sits atop a high dune in a wide expanse of dunes. A number of Bani Yas villagers walk from their homes towards Wilfred Thesiger's men, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, who stand amongst their couched camels on the far right. Most of the small square huts (locally known as 'arish) have a rectangular enclosure attached to the house. The enclosures and huts are made of date palm fronds. In the far left distance, beyond the settlement, date palm groves grow on a plain below high dunes that slope up into the far right distance.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
