Description
Portrait of a peregrine falcon sitting on a falconer's arm in the Al Ain / Buraimi oasis. The peregrine falcon perches on a falconer's arm on a mangalah (cuff) (only the falconer's arm and torso are in the picture). The falcon's body is turned slightly to the left, and its head faces directly forward. In the far background an 'arish hut, made from date palm fronds, sits beside a tree in an expanse of sand. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
