Description
View of two camels belonging to Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a salt flat in Al Batin sands. In the foreground two camels graze on a vast empty salt flat dotted with vegetation. One of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin travelling companions stands directly behind the camel at the centre, while a second man walks across the flat in the far distance. A high, sheer-sided dune sits high above the flat on the left, and in the far distance low dunes sit along the horizon. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
