Description

Portrait of Sultan bin Ahmad, a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, posing next to a trilith monument at Mudayy. Sultan bin Ahmad, a tribesman of the Sh'asha lineage of Bayt Kathir Bedouin, kneels beside a stone marker at a trilith monument. Trilith monuments are comprised of a long row of markers made from upright stones. These triliths are found aligned with local watercourses, and are often found in conjunction with fire pits. These triliths do not mark sites of actual graves and their specific purpose is still unknown.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
