Description
Seated portrait of Salim bin Kabina, one of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, resting on a rock face near Jebel Hafeet (Jabal Hafit) mountain. Salim bin Kabina, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of the Rashid Bedouin, sits on a rock face holding a rifle. He is tugging at the izaar (wraparound skirt) he wears under his thobe (long shirt). Salim bin Kabina also wears a cartridge belt over his thobe and a ghutra (headscarf). Wilfred Thesiger spent a week on Jebel Hafeet [Jabal Hafit] hunting Arabian Tahr [Hemitragus jayakari] with Arab and Bedouin guides in April 1948.
