Description

View of Sultan bin Ahmad, a member of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party, posing next to a tumulus burial mound at Mudayy. Sultan bin Ahmad, a tribesman of the Sh'asha lineage of Bayt Kathir Bedouin, kneels to the left of a tumulus burial mound. The mound is ringed with large stones and filled in with a level layer of small stones. In the background a trilith monument runs along the behind the burial mound. Trilith monuments are comprised of a long row of markers made from upright stones. These triliths are found aligned with local watercourses, and are often found in conjunction with fire pits. These triliths do not mark sites of actual graves and their specific purpose is still unknown.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
