Description

View of a dhow (sailboat) moored in the Persian Gulf near Bahrain Island. In the foreground a large dhow with two masts sits in calm water rippled by gentle waves. A rowboat is lashed to the keel of the boat, high above the water. Two large cloth canopies shade the deck of the dhow, beneath which many men rest. In the right background a few dhows are moored, and further behind stone houses can be seen lining the shore. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
