Description
Full length portrait of a young boy, Sheikh Mubarak bin Mohammed Al Nahyan, at Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's encampment near Jebel Hafeet [Jabal Hafit]. In the foreground Sheikh Mubarak bin Mohammed Al Nahyan stands on a dune in front of the encampment. He wears a khanjar (dagger) on a cartridge belt over his thobe (long shirt) and a headscarf (ghutra). Behind him on the left a tree casts shade over a palm fence, and on the right a man walks in front of a tent. The tent is made of woven mats made from palm fronds. Beyond the camp the mountain Jebel Hafeet (Jabal Hafit) rises above the horizon in the far back right. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.
