Description
View of one of Wilfred Thesiger's Arab guides standing on a rock atop Jebel Hafeet [Jabal Hafit] mountain. In the foreground an Arab man wearing a thobe (long shirt) and ghutra (headscarf) stands on the far left of a rocky slope, beside a bush. He holds a rifle over his shoulder and is facing to the left. On the right a high wall of limestone rock fills the foreground. At the centre the cliffs slope down to a plain dotted with sparse vegetation in the far distance. Wilfred Thesiger spent a week on Jebel Hafeet [Jabal Hafit] hunting Arabian Tahr [Hemitragus jayakari] with Arab and Bedouin guides in April 1948.
