Description
Profile portrait of an Arab man, one of Wilfred Thesiger's guides, riding a camel during the party's journey from Jabal Sumeini to the port city of Sharjah. The man, a retainer of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, kneels in his saddle facing towards the left [most of the camel's body is outside the frame]. He wears a thobe (long shirt) topped with a cartridge belt and has a rifle slung under his left arm. His ghutra (headscarf) is wrapped closely around his head and neck. In the background a tree grows on the left, and further behind smaller bushes are scattered across a vast flat plain.
