Description
Portrait of three Manasir Bedouin at their encampment in the Al Khatam sands near Al Ain. On the left an elder man with a trimmed grey beard sits in profile beside a clutch of branches at the entrance to a large tent made from striped woven blankets and large woven palm mats. At the centre a boy sits behind two large pots cooking on a campfire in front of the tent. Behind him a young boy stands in the shade inside the tent. On the right a pile of dry branches sits in the sand below the tent wall. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
