Description

View of Wilfred Thesiger's party walking past 'arish huts in Liwa oasis. Three men from Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party ride camels past a weathered 'arish hut made of palm fronds (locally called saaf) sitting on the left. They are followed by a forth member of the party leading two camels on foot. Warad, the party's saluki dog, stands to the right of the two nearest camels. In the distance another 'arish hut sits in the sand, leaning heavily to the left side. Sand dunes dotted with a few tufts of vegetation stretch into the distance in every direction. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
