Description
View of Salim bin Ghabaisha and Salim bin Kabina, Wilfred Thesiger's Bedouin companions, standing in front of Al Khandaq Fort in Buraimi oasis. Salim bin Ghabaisha (left) and Salim bin Kabina (right), tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, stand leaning on their rifles in an area of flat sand dotted with tufts of grass. Behind the men Al Khandaq Fort sits at the edge of a date palm grove. The fort has a defensive trench surrounding the fort and four round corner watchtowers. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
