Description
Seated portrait of Salim bin Ghabaisha, one of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, riding a camel during the party's journey from Jabal Sumeini to the port city of Sharjah. Salim bin Ghabaisha, a tribesman of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, kneels in the saddle of his camel [most of the camel's body is outside the frame]. He looks down at the ground below his camel. Salim bin Ghabaisha wears a cartridge belt with leather suspenders over his thobe (long shirt) and has a ghutra (headscarf) wrapped around his head. In his right hand he holds a camel stick. In the background a few bushes grow in sandy soil.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
