Description
Side view of a distant boom, a large double masted dhow (sailboat) built in Kuwait, in the Persian Gulf between Dubai Emirate and Bahrain Island. The boom flies three sails, the first from the bow, the second from the main mast, and the third from the rear mast. The ocean surrounding the boom is choppy with a few whitecaps, while above the sky is empty of clouds. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
