Description

Seated portrait of one of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's falconers holding a falcon at Al Muwaiji Fort. A young man wearing a light-coloured thobe (long shirt) topped with a khanjar (dagger) on a belt and a plain ghutra (headscarf) kneels on the ground in front of an entrance to Al Muwaiji Fort. He holds a camel stick in one hand and a falcon in the other. The falcon perches on a mangalah (cuff) on the falconer's arm. The falconer also has a wikar (block) for the falcon tucked under his arm. At the time this photograph was taken, Al Muwaiji fort was the home base for Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, then the Ruler's Representative in Al Ain.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
