Description
Seated portrait of a young tribesman of the Manasir Bedouin, whom Wilfred Thesiger met at a Manasir encampment in the Baynunah sands. A teenaged boy of the Manasir Bedouin crouches in the sand in front of a thick growth of vegetation. He leans on his knee with one arm. He wears a plain ghutra (headscarf) draped over his head and around his shoulders and a light coloured thobe (long shirt). Behind him a blanket lies next to some thick vegetation growing far behind him. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
