Description
Distant view of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party at a well in Al Batin sands during their journey across the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) from Al Dhafra sands to Liwa oasis. Three of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling companions, tribesmen of the Bayt Imani lineage of Rashid Bedouin, are in the process of digging out a well. One man stands to the left of the well. Beside him, a second man is leaning over the well. A third man squats at the edge of the well. To the right of the well a number camels are waiting for water. In the foreground the party's supplies are spread out across the sand.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
