Description
Seated half length portrait of an Arab man, one of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan's falconers, in Al Khatam sands near Jebel Hafeet (Jabal Hafit). A man wearing an embroidered ghutra (headscarf) and a light coloured thobe (long shirt) sits in the sand looking down at his hands by his waist. He wears a cartridge belt and leather suspenders over his thobe. Behind him a large expanse of bare sand stretches into the far distance, where a few bushes grow in the sand. This image was taken between December 20, 1948, and January 27, 1949, during which time Wilfred Thesiger stayed with Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan in Al Ain and joined him on a number of hunting excursions.
