Description
View of a villager walking past 'arish huts at a Bani Yas settlement in Liwa oasis. On the left 'arish huts sit inside a high fenced enclosure made of palm fronds (locally called saaf). On the right a Bani Yas villager walks past the enclosure across an expanse of sand, while behind him a goat stands on a sand ridge. Behind the settlement a high ridge of sand dunes stretches out across the horizon below a hazy sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.
