Description
View of exposed bedrock in Al Dhafra sands of the Rub' al Khali. In the foreground a bare sand dune slopes steeply down to into a depression. Exposed sandstone sits above the sand floor of the depression. Behind it a clump of plants grow on the side of the dune, beyond which more dunes rise in the far distance. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
