Portrait of four of Wilfred Thesiger's sailing companions in resting in camp on one of the Abu Dhabi islands. At the far left, an older man sits cross-legged, leaning on a rolled sleeping mat and mattress. Two young men sit in the centre behind him, one of whom is wearing a waistcoat over his thobe (ankle-length shirt). On the right a fourth man kneels in the sand with his hands in his lap. He has an 'agal (head rope) draped like a sash over his waistcoat and his thobe (ankle-length shirt). In the background a man stands by a bush on which a cooking pot rests. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's week and a half long sailing trip around the Abu Dhabi Islands with Sheikh Hazaa bin Sultan Al Nahyan, Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan Al Nahyan and their retainers in March 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
