Full length portrait of a man standing with a camel in Al Ain oasis. On the far left a man stands amongst dry vegetation on a sand dune, holding the head rope of a thoroughbred Batina camel (centre). The man wears a waistcoat and a cartridge belt over his thobe (long shirt). He is also wearing a ghutra (headscarf), the ends of which blow in front of his face. The camel stands in profile, facing towards the left. It is saddled with an Omani style wooden saddle. Trees and bushes grow behind a ridge of sand in the far distance. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
