Description
Half length standing portrait of Captain Haji Mansur and one of his sailors working on a dhow (sailboat) in the Persian Gulf near Bahrain Island. Haji Mansur, the nakhoda or captain of the dhow on which Wilfred Thesiger travelled from Dubai to Bahrain Island, holds his hand above his face to block the sun. He is wearing a T-shirt, a wraparound skirt and has a taqiyah cap on his head. On the right one of his sailors leans on a rail, looking out over the water. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's May 18-28, 1948 journey by dhow from Dubai to Bahrain Island.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
