Description
Wilfred Thesiger's party at a well in the Empty Quarter (Rub' al Khali) in the region between 'Uruq ash Shaybah and Al Dhafra sands. Many camels crowd around a hawd, a leather trough with a wooden frame. At the right, men from Wilfred Thesiger's party. This well is likely the well called Khaur Sabkha (literally, "salt-flat well"), which was the first well Wilfred Thesiger encountered after crossing the 'Uruq ash Shaybah.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
