Description
View of two members of Wilfred Thesiger's travelling party trekking in the Al Dhafra sands during the party's journey to Baynunah. Two dry clumps of qassis (sedge) grow on a dune slope in the central foreground. Further beyond two of Wilfred Thesiger's Rashid Bedouin companions ride camels across a stretch of sand dotted with tufts of qassis. The man on the left holds his camel stick in the air with his right hand. Far beyond them rolling dunes continue towards the horizon below a cloudless sky. This image was taken during Wilfred Thesiger's journey from Al Ain to Liwa oasis, Al Dhafra and Baynunah sands in November and December 1948.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
