Description
Full length portrait of a man and a young boy standing with a camel in Al Ain oasis. At the far left a young boy holding a camel stick stands next to a man holding holding the head rope of a thoroughbred Batina camel (centre right). The man wears a waistcoat and a cartridge belt over his thobe (long shirt), and a ghutra (headscarf). The camel stands in profile, facing towards the left. It is saddled with an Omani style wooden saddle. In the background is a low rock mound. Trees, bushes and grasses grow in the sand surrounding them. This image was taken during April 6-30, 1948, when Wilfred Thesiger stayed at Al Muwaiji fort in Al Ain as a guest of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Due to the nature of these images, prints will reproduce any signs of age, wear or damage that occurred before they were archived by the Pitt Rivers Museum.
